About the Object
Around Friends Arena in Solna, Peab has constructed five residential buildings, each with 22 storeys. Three of the buildings have been completed and two are still in the design phase. The buildings are in principle identical, constructed with two stairwells, Tr1 and Tr2. The ground floor, facing the street Evenemangsgatan, is dedicated to commercial businesses.

How have we assisted the project?
Brandskyddslaget has been, and remains to be, responsible for the fire safety design from the planning stage until the final handover of verified systems. The project includes, for example, risk assessment, pressure calculations for the stairwell Tr1 and the evacuation elevators. We have also, in collaboration with first responders, participated in the test and verification of the water riser.

About the Object
Brandskyddslaget has developed the fire safety design of the Hotel and Office Building, Victoria Tower in Kista. Victoria Tower is comprised of 34 floors, has a height of 118 m, and contains 300 hotel rooms, a restaurant, conference facilities and a sky bar on the top floor.

How have we assisted the project?
Brandskyddslaget was commissioned to accept the challenge of this extremely tall building with the aim to maximize the area available for businesses. The plot of land had a limited surface area available for the building, making it difficult to develop an economically feasible solution including two stairwells plus elevators. Therefore, a solution was developed where in particular the elevators were equipped with extra fire protection so that they could be used for evacuation, thereby reducing the required number of stairwells from two to one.

As a direct result of the removal of one of the stairwells, an area corresponding to an additional hotel room per floor was made available. The level of safety needed was determined using a risk analysis which was subjected to numerous external third-party reviews.

The facade developed by the architect required a distance between the windows on the various floors that was not in line with simplified design. Full-scale tests were conducted together with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, to verify the proposed solution.

The project also included calculations to design pressurizing of the stairwell and elevators relative to the rest of the building. The challenge is greater for a tall building that must tolerate the harsh Swedish climate with large temperature variations over a year. The solution consisted of extraction vents on each floor, which also created additional safety by acting as fire gas vents.

About the Object
Tyresö View is a residential property comprised of 24-floors located above the latest extension of the shopping center in central Tyresö. The project included not only the 24-floor residential property but also an 8-floor apartment building, the extension of the shopping center and the appurtenant parking deck.

How have we assisted the project?
Brandskyddslaget was responsible for the fire safety design from the outset of the project until its completion. The boundary conditions for the fire protection were developed through a risk assessment equivalent to a present-day fire engineered solution where the construction in its entirety was analysed. An analysis was conduction of two alternative solutions at the request of the client.

The ventilation system, with fans in operation and pressurization of stairwell Tr1 and the evacuation elevators, was verified using analytical design.

A presentation of the fire protection of the structure was conducted for the local fire brigade at the request of the client as this was the first building with evacuation elevators and a pressurized water riser in the area. A response plan was also developed to give the local first responders the best possible starting point for potential future incidents.
