The City Line is a 6 km long train tunnel for commuter traffic under the city between Karlberg and Stockholm South station. The City Line is comprised of a double track tunnel with a parallel service tunnel and two new underground stations: Stockholm City and Stockholm Odenplan. In total, the project has cost 17 billion SEK and from start to finish the project took just under 9 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How have we assisted the project?<\/strong><br \/>Brandskyddslaget has worked on the fire and passenger safety in the project since 2002, when there were no clear laws or regulations for the construction. Brandskyddslaget worked to facilitate testing of fire technical systems and to conduct the large-scale first responder exercises.<\/p>\n<p>We have worked as a subcontractor to larger contractors where we have been responsible for the building documentation within the project which has included both fire and passenger safety. The course can be seen as a northerly extension of the existing Botnia Line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How have we assisted the project?<\/strong><br \/>Brandskyddslaget has developed a safety and security assessment of passenger safety in the Ersmark Tunnel on the stretch between Ume\u00e5 and D\u00e5va. The main economic driver identified in the analysis was the impact of the number of escape exits and their placement.<\/p>\n<p>The safety and security analysis was conducted according to TDOK 2016:0231 and included both comparative and qualitative analysis and a quantitative risk assessment. Experience from a variety of other projects was used as input to the analysis including, for example, from the Str\u00e4ngn\u00e4s Tunnel, West Link, Botnia Line, \u00c5dals Line, Varberg Tunnel, S\u00f6der Tunnel in Helsingborg and the Hallands\u00e5s Tunnel. In total this will require approximately 20 km new tracks and 11 stations to be built. The project also includes a new depot and the delivery of new vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How have we assisted the project?<\/strong><br \/>Brandskyddslaget, and our sister company Risktec have been commissioned to assist procurement related to fire and passenger safety and security and to provide risk assessment and project quality assurance. In many cases this is made possible through the extension of tunnels and the majority of these are protected using a suppression system called FFFS \u2013 Fixed Fire Fighting System<\/p>\n<p>The system has been designed and developed by Brandskyddslaget together with the Swedish Transport Administration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How have we assisted the project?<\/strong><br \/>Brandskyddslaget has provided technical expertise in sprinkler technology for the Swedish Transport Administration for many years. The work has included diverse tasks such as the development of a new concept for tunnel fire protection, testing of technical solutions and detailed design of sprinkler systems for specific projects.<\/p>\n<p>The FFFS has specially designed nozzles and the choice of material has been made taking into account the specific environment in road tunnels.
